Today is International Women's Day, a day to celebrate the achievements of women around the world!
This year's (March 8, 2023) theme is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.
The upcoming 67th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67) has chosen "Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls" as its priority theme.
International Women's Day has been around for over a century!
It was first celebrated in 1909, and since then has been celebrated annually on March 8th.
The day isn't just about celebrating women who have made history; it's also about supporting women who are fighting for equality today.
In many countries, women still do not have the same rights as men. They are paid less for doing the same job, and they often have a harder time getting promoted. In some countries, women are not even allowed to work outside the home!
There are many ways to celebrate International Women's Day.
You can donate to or volunteer for organizations that support women's rights, such as the ACLU or Planned Parenthood. You can also simply take the time to educate yourself and others about gender inequality and what you can do to help end it.
Happy International Women's Day!
Today is a day to celebrate how far we've come and to continue fighting for equality for all!
